Denis Roio (jaromil) is one of the original hackers and long-time activist within the free software movement. He has made significant contributions to the development of multimedia and streaming applications on the Linux platform. He authored FreeJ, MuSE and dyne:bolic, and was instrumental in the development of Frei0r which is used in many vital Linux video projects. Recently he has dabbled in bitcoin development with his fork called Freecoin and advocated for it publically. Jaromil is a long-time squatter and participant in underground economies. He will relate to us how bitcoin fits in with this world which offers an illustrative example of bitcoin’s future as a community-level people’s currency. And how activists can use bitcoin to effect radical change to rebalance the power differential worldwide. Bringing together his long activist background, free software involvement and understanding of bitcoin will gift us an interesting perspective and prospective look at bitcoin.
